Stereophonics are one of those bands that are so big in England,
they could sell out a soccer stadium with ease, but over here, they're lucky
to fill a club. Their fourth album, You Gotta Go There is somewhat of
departure for the brit-rock group. Slowly over their last two albums,
they've tried to ease their audience into more of a blues rock influenced
type of music. Kelly Jones's voice has always had that rasp, and along with
a more bluesy approach, they've begun to morph into the Black Crowes meets
the Faces. (Rod Stewart's first band.) Album opener "Help Me" is a seven minute
blues monster, and "Maybe Tomorrow" is drenched in soul sweat. But it's
familiar sounding tunes like "Climbing the Wall" that will appease fans of
old, at least until they can convince themselves that it looks like the
blues sound is here to stay.
